I like to begin my day writing a story or maybe even a new song; unfortunately, neither is easy.

My talent has always been my ability to recognize talent and then get out of their way.

Are you good for the money is a tricky question, especially if it’s a mobster asking it.

Hey, sometimes there’s a woman to blame—right @BurtonCummings.

An old adage says, “Don’t trust someone who won’t drink with you.”

I wonder how the lawyers who lie for a living sleep at night.

You can forget about raising your children like you were raised; that world no longer exists.

My brother, like me has worked in radio on both sides of the border and have proudly worked we’ve bothwith a few radicals.
In his video below, Reg unveils the radical owners in Canada who shaped the Canadian radio landscape.

Champions don’t work 9-5.

Grief is your final showing of the love you have for someone.

Helping a person get what they want gets you what you want.

If you know nothing about a certain subject, your opinion doesn’t matter.

You have two choices: moving forward into the scary future or stepping back into the safety of the past. Guess which one pays the most?

The truth always matters, no matter how painful it is or how long it takes to seek it out.

The only advice I want to hear about my children is your applause.

If you didn’t have a great past, quit dragging yourself back there.

As arrogant as the French are about everything, I wonder how they’re handling the Arabs taking over their country.

Things aren’t black or white; they’re mostly gray.

Most parents think they did a good job raising their children. Unfortunately, their kid’s therapist may disagree.

Some men like trolling for tramps, and some women enjoy tramping for trolls.

Maybe If we looked at life through our rearview mirrors occasionally, history wouldn’t repeat itself.

Knowing when to fold is tough: just ask any poker player.

The only person who has your best interests in mind is you.

If you can hold on until your special lady drags you off to her bed, you’ll have the night of your life.

Love can do everything except help your career.

Over the Superbowl weekend, @ReidReker and I spent a couple of hours driving to a resort in Georgia to watch the Superbowl with our friend @GregTantum, and we never turned the radio on once.

Making a great sequel is very difficult, so you might as well create an exciting original.

I find it hard to believe that out of the 331 million people who live in America, the best we could come up with to lead us is Biden and Trump.

I guess some of my liberal friends got a little upset the other day when I commented on Facebook that I thought that white people were musically hipper than black folks.
Hey, I like all kinds of entertainers, whereas black people seem to like black artists..

Some of them even claimed my statement was racist, which I find ridiculous.
Anyway, that’s when the debate began, and one of the folks who disagreed with me was my friend @HarryLyles, a very successful Hip Hop radio consultant.

I backed up my statement by telling Harry that I recently saw Stevie Nicks in concert and also Steve Miller about a month later.
“Harry,” I said, “There wasn’t one black person in the audience at their shows, and I doubt there are any at a Taylor Swift concert either.”

Then I went on to say that I’ve seen the Stones, Elton John, Maroon 5, Paul McCartney, Rod Stewart, Joni Mitchell, Shania Twayne, Gordon Lightfoot, John Mellencamp, Sting, Melissa Ethridge, The Four Seasons, ZZ Top, Van Morrison, The Beach Boys, The Moody Blues and Crosby Stills Nash and Young.
Same story though, no black folks and the only time I’ve seen any was when I went to see The Temptations, The Four Tops, Fats Domino, and the occasional Doo Wop show.

I still remember how strange it was when I walked into a Christian Rock concert a few years ago to pick up my daughter Cami, and the only black person was one of the musicians on stage.
Hey, I also doubt that CHR radio has many black listeners, whereas tons of white people listen to and love hip-hop.

I finished up my conversation with Harry by telling him about the day George Martin died, and on that day, I happened to be sitting next to a black dude.
We were discussing the plight of the Miami Dolphins, and at some point, I said, “Hey, sad news about George Martin, huh?” He looked at me and said, “Who’s George Martin?”

“Harry,” I couldn’t believe it; I said, “Hell, I know who Quincy Jones is, who the fuck doesn’t know who George Martin is? ”
Harry responds with, “George, could you tell me this, just who the hell is George Martin?”

(George Martin is shown on top with his greatest accomplishment, The Beatles. Harry is shown right below him)

@TimMoore: George, I’m tossing the penalty flag at your feet! “Modesty” is a great quality…but you’re making a science out of it!
If I had to win today and was asked to provide a small list of “Contemporary Radio’s most innovative PDs” (by contemporary, I mean the “format-era” to now), you would unfailingly share the top rung within a small, select company.

Step back and look in the rearview mirror: the stations you elevated, the Talent you developed, and the advanced stylistic “patina” you brought to AC and Radio.
Coming from Michigan, I believed “Northern Radio” was superior…until I took the VP job atTM in Dallas and started listening to KVIL! Pure artistry.
Thus I began strongly advocating our Client’s talent rise above the “cliché jock” model, striving to become an entertainer, and urged our programming client stations to elevate their “deserve level.”
It usually worked! From Detroit to Portland, Maine…from Grand Rapids to San Diego, we preached the strategy of “Cinematic” Radio.

As I mentioned, I left Dallas (which I had come to love) to launch a huge 100,000-watt CHR in the gorgeous Grand Traverse Bay (Michigan) region where 24 Class C stations already existed!

For over 100 years, that entire region had been populated by very upscale summer communities with wealthy families from Chicago, Dallas, St. Louis, and Detroit: ten-bedroom homes deserted after Labor Day!
Names like The Chicago Club, Harbor Point, Belvedere Club, and numerous others depict the Hyannis backdrop, which it remains today.
“106 KHQ” (we deleted the ‘W’ except for legal IDs) prompted a call from a great Spokane company (Morgan Murphy) who owned the original “KHQ” and was among our TM Programming clients:
GM Bernie Blair called and said, “Timmy…what are you doing ?” I explained it was the ultimate compliment and, in fact, we were WKHQ, but with the exception of “legal,” we were positioned “106 KHQ”!
With our “KVIL-ification,” we were killing it only nine months after our debut; an established Chicago-owned 100,000 contemporary local incumbent (WJML) was determined to prove that 106 KHQ was a phantom flash-in-the-pan.
So they commissioned the region’s first Arbitron for Northwest Michigan. I was dreading it, having been on for only nine months and realizing “WJML,” though far from spectacular, had been the big dog for ten years
On the day the market’s first Arbitron advances were to be released, I was visiting Detroit Ad agencies 8 hours away!
My Ops manager (Bob Harper/WKBW Buffalo and others) made a deal to call me as soon as the advances were released…I was dreading it! All I hoped for was that we’d just have a respectable debut.
So Harper opens the call (I’m on I-96 heading out of Detroit) and says…”Ahem, uh…okay…we’ve agreed to stay calm, not expect the impossible, given our short existence.”.
I interrupted…”Okay Bob…I get it…I’ll stay calm”, to wit he responded, “Well…that’s good…because… KHQ is NUMBER 1 in every category that matters, including 25-54 Women and Persons!
A couple of days later, I called Chapman, and he suggested we be on each other’s morning shows… So, for about 5 minutes one gorgeous summer morning, he was on KHQ, and I was on KVIL.
Little did I know you were crucial to their greatness! (Geo’s Daily Life-Liners)
Geo: Tim, you’re much too kind, but I must admit I loved it. 🙂
