Was the word Fascist always been a bad word, or did Hitler make it so?

A lot of my socialist friends think that we need a liberal talk show. However, they don’t understand that for it to be popular, it needs to attract an audience of both Liberals and Conservatives. Unfortunately, right-wingers would never listen; they don’t take the left seriously.

Do the folks who suffer from some form of depression think about what those who love them are going through?

The only good thing about being my age is I can do anything without fear of repercussions. What will they do, give me free room and board plus health care? Darn.

So ladies, would you want beauty or brains if you could only have one?

Loyalty is precious because it’s so rare.

What rights are women willing to give up in order to have equal rights?

What if we discover that Jesus, God, or Mother Mary did not exist? What happens then?

After being taught at TCI in Transcona that beat farmers mostly populated Russia, you can imagine my surprise when I woke up on the morning of October 4th in 1957 to discover that, somehow, these peasants had managed to put up a satellite that circled the earth called Sputnik. Wow!

Marshall McLuhan, a Toronto University Professor and brilliant media philosopher, later said, “At the moment of Sputnik, the planet became a global theater in which there are no spectators, only actors.
Marshall was absolutely right because, before that Sputnik moment, most men wore only one drab suit, a matching drab tie, and a bunch of boring white shirts.

However, things changed quickly and drastically because we were all on stage now.
Soon, men were wearing bright-colored dress shirts with flowered ties, Blue Blazers with gold buttons, sports jackets of various colors, and even jewelry.

The shirts got wilder as time passed, and a few guys even went neon.
In my mind, the only downside to all this is that if it’s true that we’re all actors on the world stage now, why are there so many bad ones? (Marshall McLuhan is shown on top.)

@DougHerman: Those special “out of format” things were always fun.  When I was at WRIT/Milwaukee (1970-1971), a couple of times, we did a throw-back weekend where we turned the whole radio station back into 1957 or 1958.  WRIT was top 40 all the time and had been since the ’50s, but for those “special” weekends, we hauled out the old playlists and the old WRIT PAMS jingles from back in the day. We had our station voice guy do appropriate intros and so forth.  We cranked up the reverb on the jock mic channel and even switched our newscasts over to “Action Central News” with all of the sounders, reverb, and sound effects. We took the traditional “Solid Gold Weekend” oldies programming done by a lot of top 40 stations to the absolute extreme.  Enough of us on staff were old enough to remember what it was supposed to sound like.  It was a hell of a lot of fun and got some very good audience reaction. Geo: Doing that kind of stuff was so much fun, Doug. I remember at WIBC in Indy, we ran a promo saying, “This Friday at 4:00 PM, 10-70 WIBC becomes a thing of the past.” It had the whole town buzzing. Of course, we played nothing oldies all weekend.

I’d sure like to know what African Americans think about all the pandering that goes on in Hollywood for them.
You know, in all the action movies, the president is always black, the secretary of defense is a black female, as is the Admiral who has been called to the Whitehouse to save the world., The mayor and the police chief of the city in crisis are also black.

Hell, you’d think they’d throw in the odd Asian, Hispanic, or Native American just for variety sake.
Also, why is there always a black guy hanging out with a bunch of white dudes at a cowboy bar?

Oh, and of course, there’s always a good-lookin’ black couple barbequing with white folks or having fun on a cruise with white folks. 
I remember the days when they used to show black guys married to white women, which was quite a shock, but now they’ve switched to white guys with black wives. However, in reality, I suspect that there are more white guys married to Asians than Black ladies.

Have you noticed how excited the media gets when a black guy scores a goal in the NHL or wins a swimming event, a car race, scoring a goal in a Polo match, a skiing or snowboarding event, a tennis tournament, a skateboard contest, an Equestrian outing, a golf tournament, a gold medal in skating, winning a stage in the Tour De France, or an Oscar?

Oh, and how come the TV commercials that target black folks don’t need white people in them?
How could all this pandering possibly help anything? Asking for a friend. 🙂

@NatHumphrey: Good morning! The French are permanently pissed that English became the global lingua franca and French didn’t. This, to me, is what we interpret as apparent “arrogance”. One of many examples I can offer is my sending a little drawing over to the official Picasso authentication committee both in English and French (out of courtesy) for their review. Months later, their response came back in French, knowing damn well I’d have to fire up my translation software to read it. (2/29/24)

@TimMoore: As a former and proud Navy man, let’s remember “Midway,” where the heavily favored Japanese task force lost FOUR Aircraft Carriers and thousands of men after being ambushed by Admiral Chester Nimitz and his Carrier Genius Admiral Raymond Spruance. The Navy’s intel people in Hawaii broke the Japanese code; thus, as heavy underdogs, our Navy aviation and “ship drivers” destroyed the Soru, Hiryu, Kagi, and Akagi over the course of THREE days! Japan was finished as a Naval power, only to be further decimated at Leyte Gulf three years later (despite Bill Halsey’s errors). (3/20/24)

So, since many of my liberal friends are contemplating moving to Canada if Trump is elected, let me try and explain what you’re in for.
First of all, Canada da pretty well has all the socialists they need; hell, even the far right is a little bit left of center so crossing the border may be tough.

For starters, the average wage in Canada is $43000 compared to $56,000 here in the United States.
Put that together with the fact that you can’t deduct the interest from your mortgage payment, and you’ll also pay a provincial and national sales tax on all purchases; it’s a little scary, but it even gets scarier.

Gas is $5.95 a gallon. Cigarettes cost $130.00 a carton, compared to $55.00 here.
Whiskey costs $33.00 in Canada and $18.00 state-side for the same thing.

Homes cost 40% more in Canada, cars run about 20% more, and food is 57% more expensive.
Oh, and that free health care you’ve been hearing about, well, you better not need anything fixed quickly because it’s a bitch getting a hospital bed.

However, even though getting into Canada is tougher than getting into the United States, if you get it done, you’ll love the Canadian people.
They’re still too polite, to tell you and your arrogant American attitude to go fuck itself.

@JedDuva: George: When I was in R.O.T.C. at Rose Polytechnic Institute (now Rose-Hulman), in Terrible Haute in 1969-1970, Major Paul Galanti, our instructor with two tours of duty under his belt in Viet Nam, and one-tour in Korea, emphasized how conservation of effort and war materials were key.  Minimize spending on weapons of war and ammunition and minimize harm to the men and women (although they were much fewer in the late 1960s). The thoughtful major repeatedly emphasized that as future lieutenants in the Army Signal Corp and the Corp of Engineers, life and the protection of it was the most important mission. However, the accomplishment of the military goal came second.   One of the principles of American military deterrence has always been that appearance of might.  I am not certain that it is warlike, but after reading much U.S. history, very few American generals embraced war.  (Yes, George Patton did, as did Curtis LeMay.)  Readiness and preparation to answer any challenge have been the U.S. military policy in the post-nuclear age. (Note:  When I took my military physical in 1971 to complete my entry into the Army, my eyesight was below what the Army would accept for an officer, so I was put back into the general draft pool of cannon fodder. Geo: Being a Canadian and hearing about my uncles going to war against the Germans in 1939, I know they never forgave America for holding out until 1941 and probably wouldn’t have done it even then if not for the convivence of Pearl Harbor. In fact, at the time, my relatives looked at the Americans as being cowards, as did all my relatives in England and Australia
