Geo’s Media Blog (It’s Only Temporary) Part 2 2/14/22

When I was the corporate consultant for Fairmont Communications, I often traveled to Detroit to meet with legendary morning man, Jim Harper at WNIC.
Jim was also the Program Director which as I said in Part 1, I was happy about because he’d be too busy to argue about music.
(Jim pictured with me on top and cutting a car commercial below.)

We developed a unique friendship that began out of mutual respect that still exists to this day.
In fact, we’re thinking of doing a podcast together entitled, “Jim Harper has some questions about Geo’s Media Blog.”

Meanwhile, back to my story. On one of my visits to WNIC, I was up bright and early listening to Jim’s show when a particular commercial caught my attention.
After meeting up with Jim later that morning, I asked if he would introduce me to the station’s Sales Manager?

Once seated in the SM’s office I said, “Could you take me to the Ford Dealership that you’re currently running commercials for?”
Surprised, he asked why and I told him that I wanted to buy 5 or 6 cars.

Shocked, he asked, “Why do you need that many cars?”
I told him that I planned on keeping one of them in Detroit to use during my visits and ship the rest of them back to San Diego.

When he asked what I was going to do with the cars in California, I told him that I planned to sell them for an enormous profit.
Scrunching up his face in disbelief, he asked, “How the hell are you gonna pull that off?”  I answered with
“Well, the commercial I heard this morning on Jim’s show said that they were going to be selling new Fords today for the lowest price ever.”

“Now,” I went on to say, “I happen to know that Henry Ford sold his cars for around $850.00 so if their price is lower than that today, I’m getting out of radio because I’ve just found a new business that’s going to pay me a lot more than radio ever did.”

GEO’S LIFE-LINERS

When I was married, I always had a ton of chores I had to do, but now that I’m not, they all went away?

If you want to get noticed, take responsibility for your company’s failures, that line is always much shorter.

I find it amazing that Trump still gets more publicity than any other politician.

Speaking of politicians, I wish they’d spent more time doing what we elected them to do rather than spending most of their time raising money for the next election.

As long as you don’t desire them, women are not that hard to handle.

The reason the Democrats and the Republicans both like the rich guys is because not only do they take care of the politicians, they also start businesses. The businesses collect taxes from their employees and then send the cash to the government without the Feds doing anything. What’s not to like?

You only get to play the cards you’re dealt.

If you’re not leading, you’re following.

I wonder how many total years Brady’s been playing football?

Treat people like they’re smarter than you expect them to be.

I have the heart and mind of a musician, but not the soul.

Only the future can tell you if you got a bargain or overpaid.

It’s easier to complete a project than come up with any good excuses for why you didn’t.

How great do you think the service would be if nobody cared if you returned or not?

Your becoming better at everything is a worthy goal.

The more employees you have the less communication.

Your imagination leads you to limitless opportunities.

Hey Whoopie, the Holocaust ain’t no joke.

Unhappiness lies somewhere between what we have and what we want.

On your way to success, you’ll pass by failure several times.

Gravity doesn’t care who believes in it.

Sir Paul’s current band is much better than The Beatles ever were but they’re not The Beatles.

If you could choose, would you be, Black, White, Hispanic or Asian, Straight or Gay?

Freedom Of Speech comes with consequences.

You don’t see a therapist because you’ve got too many good memories.

As my running coach, Tom Hunt told me, “While racing, if you feel any pain pull up unless you can see the finish line.”

Radio is the perfect non-interactive media.

Being a Centrist is uncomfortable, it’s much easier to be all-in. However, then I’d have to become a follower, but unfortunately, I don’t follow really well.

We baby boomers while trying to make things better for our kids, actually made things worse.

What a great Superbowl!

Happy Valentine’s Day.
