Cat: assume our Fathers were WW 2 era (Dad flew a B-26 Marauder) then became a coach and educator.
I can count only a few time he told me “he was proud of me”: once after throwing my TD pass, and another when I designated “Honor Man” by my Navy unit. That said he was a great influence for me.
Men in that era weren’t conditioned to evoke I guess.
