Earl Mann and I started working together years ago at CFTR in Toronto where he was our midday guy and Ric Moranis was his board op and I’m proud to say that even today we still do some projects together. Earl possesses one of those incredible voices that you have to be born with and I can’t do any great radio without because of its natural warmth that simply says … Listen Or I Will Kill You!
What a treat Earl was to work with – always ready for anything.
Doesn’t hurt that he has the voice God borrows when he needs to make an important announcement.
Well said Stirling and lets just hope God doesn’t need that voice for awhile,
Another great thing about Earl & other announcers at CFTR, was that he was originally singer, so his sense of music & pacing was so much better than someone just using a countdown clock. Don Parrish was also a classically trained singer & Fred Davis a horn player, No need to explain top them what you wanted them to hit…they could feel it.
I’m still op-ing NHL radio feeds out of Montreal…Earl is reading liners on practically every back feed!
Thanks for the read Bruce. Isn’t it funny how the gifted usually have more gifts than one.
Stirling, your comment made me smile ‘out loud’! 🙂
Thanks, pal.
Nice to see two of the old crew communicating on my Blog and I use the word “old” affectionately.
