When Mark Hubbard was the President of Fairmont we used to travel together when visiting their various markets. K101 in San Francisco, WNIC in Detroit, WLAC in Nashville, and KKOB in Albuquerque. It was during one of our visits to Nashville that Mark mentioned to me that he had recently taken up song writing.
In between meetings on this particular day we headed up to the 2nd floor of the WLAC building where Billboard Magazine had leased some space. The Woman who ran the Nashville division of Billboard was very connected to the music scene so Mark wanted to play his demo for her in hopes that she could point him in the right direction. She greeted us warmly so that part went well and after a little chit chat we rolled tape. About halfway through the second tune she suddenly reached over and stopped the tape saying … Either that woman you have singing your tunes has never ever had sex or she is some kinda beauty queen. Mark admitted that she once was Miss Cincinnati and that was all she wrote.
Speaking of Mark he was the one who informed me that the absolute best job in radio was to be lucky enough to be the GM of a highly rated rock station. Everything is free!
I was taught while growing up that it’s your actions that count and you are held responsible for them because talk is cheap. The courts agree with that but for some reason the NBA plays by different rules unless of course they are just showboating for the black athletes because they know they don’t have a hope in hell of getting rid of Sterling.
A wise man once told me that if something doesn’t make any sense look for a financial connection. Ok lets follow the money and figure out the Casey Kasem mess … Ahh there it is, his new wife is keeping him away from all sharp objects like pen and paper and anyone who is likely to supply him with said same. At this point she can’t take a chance that he may want to change his will so he can provide for his kids whom she hates. Now how tough was that.
Speaking of Casey, finding him sure didn’t garner the same media coverage as losing him did.
There are two things you’ll never see, a Faith Healer at a Hospital nor aPsychic cashing in winning lottery tickets.
Another thing you’ll never see is a pretty girl at a bus stop but you will see a lot of young ones driving BMW’s and Mercedes, but not many young guys doing the same.
Isn’t it funny how the harder you work the luckier you get.
I remember the first time I saw all that equipment in the control room of a radio station and I remember thinking if I could ever figure out how to run all that stuff I guess that would make me a radio guy. It ended up taking me only an hour to learn how all the equipment worked but a lifetime of learning just to create something worthy for the equipment tot deliver. It’s always been about coming up with something interesting enough to say so that the folks will take time out of their busy day to listen to you say it. Smart phones and computers are just not smart enough to provide that service.
When you hate someone unfortunately that person has an emotional bond which will control you until you let it go.
Worry solves absolutely nothing.
Most talent think they should be paid more for what they do rather than learn that which would pay them more.
Have you ever noticed how difficult it is to ride a bike when it’s standing still. Kinda like life.
I wonder if fear of not being able to provide is in a Man’s DNA. When my first Daughter was born I quit my band so I could find something more secure. 28 years later when my next Daughter showed up surprisingly the same fear also showed up.
Speaking of providing, do only white guys have to pay child support.

The big problem with raising the minimum wage to anywhere near $15 an hour is a lot of people will be out of work because they’ll just hire better people.

Why do pro athletes seem to ease up when they are leading where as amateurs tend to pour it on.
It is said that you learn a lot from your mistakes, so with that in mind I was never afraid to put new stuff on the radio because one of two things were going to happen. Either we were gonna kick major ass or I was going to get a whole lot smarter.

I see no reason to let a person go to college who would not otherwise qualify if they weren’t a good football player. Let the NFL train them on their own nickel.

Between what the research people are saying the folks most want to hear on the radio and PPM claims what they are really listening to leads me to believe the researches must be talking to the same people who told Ford to build the Edsel.
It used to be that if you had a good education you could get a pretty good job. Now it just qualifies you to fill out an application for McDonald’s.

Once had dinner with Jean and Casey when Walter Sabo and I were putting KHJ to bed with car radio. She’s very very interesting not the bimbo she’s plays on tv but very insecure. Casey besides being a great talent had of course a wealth of stories.
With the disease it does radically alter your basic persona you become anti social and retreat into your own little world. Very sad.
Yeah kinda like Dick Clark and Mohammed Ali, You really don’t want to see them that way. It is very sad Lou.
