Not only do black “Dee Jays” play (some) white music to black people but they’ve figured out how to do it and make millions of dollars without broadcasting to the masses. As a genre or subgenre, EDM may be as ingenious as the advent of hip hop which, best I can tell, was created for and by black artists who weren’t quite talented enough to be successful in the music industry as singers. With a little rhythm and the ability to rhyme, you can apparently convince kids to eat it up, as long as it’s different than whatever your parents and grandparents liked.
As a kid Ken I loved Little Richard mainly because my folks hated him but I don’t mind admitting that I was a little disappointed when I discovered that he was a drama queen instead of the angry young man that I believed him to be!
Speaking of Little Richard my Daughter Cami just texted me that they were studying him in one of her classes at college today!
