So as I sat there waiting for hurricane Mathew to show up and wondering just what the hell I was doing here I got to thinking about my recent birthday again. So far I’ve had a great life with a whole bunch of good memories but now I realize that if I’m ever gonna make any kind of change in my life now would be the time to do it. With the road ahead of me slowly shrinking everyday and the one behind growing, I would think that time is of the essence. I do however have a beautiful place in West Palm Beach which is very affordable with a fantastic view (see pictures above) but unfortunately most my of my friends and family live in California. Hell, even my daughter Cami who is the main reason that I’m here in the first place no longer lives here. If you were me what would you do? geo

  1. “……goin’ to California with an achin’ in My heart…..(Robert Plant/Led Zeppelin)….No hurricanes there….

  2. Just remember George… There is the “East” coast and the “Least” coast. California is the land of fruits and nuts. Get ready to change your party affiliation and sign up for “medical” weed.

    • I guess there’s no sense dealin’ weed as an occupation in Cali Jim but have you seen the re-entry cost. How the hell do the Mexicans afford to live there?

  3. George, you can do this blog thing from anywhere…..we are connected by these threads, not by being neighbors. If I could have something I really liked doing in the Palm Springs area, I would go back…..but as the communications and now fundraising guy for these churches….I’m back to a real job and as long as I’m having fun….I’ll continue to get the blessings and a little bit of money.
Texas is in between FL & CA….we wouldn’t be physically any closer but we are connected….
Look up, look ahead, don’t look down, don’t look back.
Do what your heart tells you.

  4. Sounds like a good time to make the West home again. (Especially having a grandson there as well. I try to remain independent & have lots of activities with my friends for as long as I can … but there are Family times, if they weren’t around you would be alone. Also, I just have to pick up the phone and call & my Family will be there for me as they also appreciate my being able to amuse & look after myself. I still believe life is what you make it and you don’t sit around & wait for someone to come along to make you happy … it’s not their job.

  5. Hope your special day was all you wanted it to be, George! Lots of fun comments. On the practical side… Both California and Florida are blessed with sunshine and warm weather. SoCal is congested, traffic is insane and let’s not forget state taxes. But California is fun, tons to do, and there is always the next best thing in CA. Florida, a bit calmer, no state income tax, and in West Palm every good thing about FLA is available to you. Hard decision. You’ll make the one that is right for you.

  6. George, wait until after “The Big One” (the earthquake, not WLW), then buy ocean-front property in Las Vegas ! I think you might wish to move west. I have heard that the Reno and Lake Tahoe are extremely nice if west is where you want to be.

    • Jed! Please get in touch. The email address I have on you is dead!

George! Operative phrase is, “Time is now”. As we pile on the miles being close enough to look in on each other becomes priceless. I wouldn’t wish CA on anybody, but for you’ it’s a near no-brainer…and yes, a pain in the butt. (moving)

      • I did as you may know Nat 8 years in San Diego then left for a short project in Boston which went on and on and eventually led to another project in West Palm where I am now. Wow have you seen the reentry cost. Whew!

  7. George,
Happiest of Birthdays, Oh Wise One.
Re: moving…go where you can be YOU. That’s all that matters to all of us, including your family.

    • Thank you old friend, I wish I was wise enough to know what to do. I don’t at the moment have a woman telling me what we should do so I’m on my own with this one.

  8. Geo,

Your question so resonates with me.

This will be my last year in Kentucky and Western Kentucky University.

All my life, I’ve moved for my career. My plan this time is to move for family. To be close to my kids, grand kids and friends.

The most important thing in life is being with people you love and who love you.

That’s my plan for the next chapter of my life.

    Dick

    • Yes, when you’re a young buck Dick it’s all about making a buck because you have to take care of others. Now it’s time to take care of ourselves.
