Sometimes it’s just about beating the system. I remember when my old friend Jack McCoy who like all of us was getting fed up with the rising price of fuel so he decided to convert the whole trunk of his Cadillac into a huge gas tank then drove it down to Mexico to fill ‘er up!
Jack ended up with so much fuel on board that he could have driven across America without refueling but unfortunately he could barely make it up and over the Coronado Bay bridge.

  1. “Radio sounded better when there were more rules” is especially true. Particularly the rule about serving the public interest. That one led some very great stations to be so involved with the public that they owned their communities. The former KVIL in Dallas and KCBQ in San Diego come to mind. With the relaxation of the rules and the advancement of technology, now so much of radio has devolved into turn up the pot on the satellite feed or hit “start” on the Audio Vault and forget about it. There are some notable exceptions, but as an old-timer with five decades in the business, my sense of it is that the over-all trend of radio is downward. Then again, maybe I’m just old and living in the past. And get off my lawn.
