Things heated up
and we got a little crazy
And before we knew it
she was having my baby

Now that Jim sold WKLB, my six-month project that had turned into five years was finished so I could finally move back to San Diego, but I chose South Florida instead.
Hey, not only was I in love, but I also lucked out when Mr. Fairbanks decided to send Jim to South Florida to sell the rest of his radio stations.

The even better news was Jim decided to keep a couple of the radio stations for himself, so he brought Bob Christy and Tim Reever from Boston with him.
Jim also made a management change, and I suspect because he didn’t get the GM job, Russ Morley decided to take a programming job in Memphis.

Luckily, my old buddy, Reid Reker, was between GM jobs, so he came to West Palm to help out for a while.
Meanwhile, back on the romantic side of things, Kari and I were beginning to fight.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t qualified to know what we were fighting about, so we split up.
The next time I heard from her was when she called to ask if I would take her to lunch, where she told me she was pregnant.

Hey, as scary as that was for me, it must have been even scarier for her.
When I tried to assure her that she could count on me, she seemed relieved, but unfortunately, when her friends got involved, things went south very quickly.

The next thing I knew, I was presented with a list of demands from her lawyer which pissed me off so much that I got the meanest lawyer in the land.
After reading the demands at our first meeting, she looked at me with a smirk on her face and said, “You’re not fucking thinking of signing this, are you?”

As good as those words sounded, following her advice was the stupidest thing I could have done.
I am now convinced that the lawyers involved in divorces and such are only there to irritate everybody so they can have a better Christmas.

As time passed and the thousand-dollar bills disappeared at the speed of light, we weren’t anywhere near an agreement.
The next time I saw Kari was at the courthouse, where we were putting together a special financial arrangement to tide her over until the baby was born.

Kari, who was in her eighth month, looked great, but she also looked very pregnant, which instantly dissolved my rage.
She agreed and said it would be good to have all the legal stuff out of the way before the baby was born. However, I will insist on a paternity test to ensure the kid is yours.

Ok, now here I am, some twenty-five years after having my first daughter; I’m back at the hospital, waiting for the birth of my second.
I had a court order permitting me to be in the birthing room, but I decided not to.

Seeing as Kari was about to become the mother of Camera Anne Johns Summerfield, I thought it was time to cut her a little slack.
Ten minutes after Cami was born, the nurse handed me this beautiful little creature who was screaming bloody murder. Cami and me pictured on top.

However, as I sat in a rocker stroking her silky hair and whispering sweet nothings in her tiny ear, she eventually began to calm down.
Then when she was quiet I began to tell her about all the fun adventures we were going to have together, I thought I detected a slight smile on her pretty little face.

Now that Cami has graduated from college, I not only realize that we did do a lot of memorable things together, but the best part is we’re not done yet.One of the first people to see Cami after she was born was my friend Reid Reker, who came to the hospital to see her the next day.
Surprisingly, before I could point her out, he said, “That kid over there in the corner is either your Brother Reg’s, your Daughter Candis’s, or yours.”

Then he said, “Hey, if I were you, man, I’d cancel the blood test; you’re only going to embarrass yourself.” (Reid is pictured above)
